Bring family and friends along to a magically entertaining Hobbit's Tea Party and Night to Remember on Saturday, 20th May at The Gap House from Noon till 10pm

The Gap House is located in the stunning Derbyshire High Peak overlooking the Toddbrook Reservoir and surrounded by rolling hills resembling the breathtaking landscape from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

The first annual Hobbit’s Tea Party and Night to Remember is sponsored by the Uniting Partnership in Whaley Bridge, comprising of three local churches. We believe this will be a grand event for families to enjoy.

Amazing Sights

Not only does the landscape resemble Middle-earth, there’s a magnificent party tree, a central point for all the festivities.

Fancy Dress

Why not be a mythical character for the day? Come dressed up as your favourite Lord of the Rings character. A prize will be given to the best dressed character.

Fun for all the Family

Enjoy a delightful day of giant lawn games and bubbles, magic acts,a photo and art competition, musical entertainment, traditional folk music, dancing and a professional fireworks display.

A Day Packed with Excitement

The festivities begin at noon and will continue into the evening with a Ceilidh and a professional fireworks display – and of course, food fit for a Hobbit!

What's On

We have planned a whole host of fun activities for all ages to enjoy during the day and evening.  Wander over to Bag End for scheduled group games and craft activities.  If you want to try the best food this side of the Shire, pop by the Prancing Pony for food and beverages throughout the day and evening.  You can eat inside the Inn or bring a picnic chairs to sit outside on the grounds.

A fanciful wizard known in these parts will entertain you with his magic, Other musicians and acrobats will aim to please both Hobbits and Elves alike.  While you are inside the Inn listen for news about a mysterious ring that has gone missing and is waiting to be discovered somewhere in the enchanted grounds.   Everyone will not want to miss the costume contest, Ceilidh and fireworks at the party tree and barn later that night.

Art Competition

At this year’s Tea Party we want people of all ages to get involved. We’re holding a Children’s Painting Competition open to all ages.

Please create your picture, on A4 paper, entitled: “This is Very Special to Me!”

First, Second and Third in each category will be on display, framed, with a rosette in a winner’s exhibition at the Hobbit’s Tea Party. A Small Prize will be sent to ALL the winners after the Saturday event. There are 4 age categories this year and we group these by school/Youth Organisation years.

All entries should be delivered, before 10th May, to Whaley Bridge Uniting Church, Buxton Road, High Peak, SK23 7HT.

Fancy Dress

We’re also holding a fancy dress competition. Fancy Dress is optional but we’re hoping to fill our Middle-earth with as many hobbits as possible! We’ve included a few ideas below to help you get started.

For male costumes, they’re quite simple. There’s loads of images around on the internet to help you but here’s a list of some clothes that you might need:

  • Baggy Trousers/Cut-off Trousers
  • Baggy white shirt/Pirate shirt
  • Waistcoat/Braces

Female Hobbit’s dress slightly differently so again, here’s a list of some clothes that you might need:

  • Long Flaired Dress
  • Waistcoat
  • White Puff Sleeve Blouse
  • Apron

Getting to The Gap House Parking is available on a field through a service road entrance 50 yards beyond the main entrance to the farm house. Disabled parking is available behind the barn through the main entranceMacclesfield Road, Kettleshulme, Cheshire East, SK23 7EJ

We want to make sure that as many people as possible can get to this event, and in doing so, we have arranged a local taxi service with Whaley Private Hire. Simply call them on 07813 139 529, either on the day or pre-book and let them know you’re attending the Hobbit’s Tea Party & Night to Remember.
If you’re staying with us for our Night to Remember then 11pm may also be a bit too late to travel home, but don’t worry. Whaley Hall is offering B&B accommodation at reasonable rates. Book by calling them on: 01663 732 495 and let them know you’re attending the event.
